Hiking and Sightseeing Tour Plovdiv to Rhodope Mountains
Introduction
This one day hike from Plovdiv to Rhodope Mountains will bring you high and deep into the cool mountain forests to beautiful panoramas and a charming small village offering unique experiences all through. The village has been established in XVIIc, it has flourished during the Bulgarian national revival period in XIXc. And it is still preserving the typical architectural style of these times though it has dwindled in XXc and nowadays it has only 8 inhabitants. It is the birthplace of the mason who has built two of the most significant houses in Plovdiv old town that houses the Ethnographical Museum and the Historical Museum – Exhibition Renaissance. There are 63 cultural monuments in the village 5 of them are with national significance, which means more or less the whole village is a cultural, historical and architectural monument.
Note: This tour can be combined with a visit to Bachkovo monastery or Asen’s fortress on the way back to Plovdiv.
Itinerary
Pick up from the hotel in Plovdiv.
Transfer approximately 60 min. to the starting point of the hiking at the high part of Rhodope mountains slowly descending all the way down to the final point of the walk. About 3 hours of easy walking through the pristine forests towards the Kosovo village. There will be panoramas over the mountain and the village itself. The shady trails gradually turn into a dirt road while descending to the beautifully scattered stone houses of the village and time to have lunch with traditional Rhodopean dish comes.
After having enough time to enjoy the scenery follows a short drive for a visit to Bachkovo monastery, Bulgaria’s second biggest monastery established in XIc.
Transfer back to the hotel in Plovdiv.
